Popular education entrance tests for teaching aspirants

I had always aspired to be a teacher as a kid. I remember dressing up like a teacher, carrying a purse and behaving like a teacher. Thankfully I was able to fulfill this dream when I did my fellowship with Teach for India. There are a lot of students out there who aspire to be a teacher, just like me. This article is a small attempt to help them figure the right way reach their goal.

 

For the students who aspire to enter into the teaching job profiles, there are numerous tests which have to be given before taking admissions into such courses. Some of popular education entrance tests for the teaching aspirants are given below-

Central Teacher Eligibility Test

CTET is conducted for the students who want to teach in the schools of the Central government in India. All the states are free to conduct their own State eligibility tests for the students. Clearing CTET Exam 2018-2019 will make the students eligible to apply for the schools of central government such as KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc. and for the schools under the administrative control of UT’s of Chandigarh, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and NCT of Delhi. The candidates who have cleared the CTET can also apply to the unaided private schools.

State Level Eligibility Test or State Eligibility Test 

The entrance examination is conducted in all the states of India and in some universities as well in English. The states conduct their own tests for lectureship and the candidates who qualify this test are further eligible to apply for the post of lecturers within the jurisdiction of the member states of the SLET commission. The candidates who wish to become lecturers in their favorite subjects can apply for this test.  

CSIR UGC NET

The examination is held by the council of scientific and industrial research in New Delhi and it holds a single MCQ examination for the award of junior research fellowship and the appointment of the lecturers. The award is for the junior research fellowship to the successful and eligible candidates who depend on finding their admissions/ placements in a university/ national laboratory or institution of higher learning and research as it is applicable. 

PRT/TGT/PGT

These are the entrance examinations which are held for the aspirants who wish to become professional, reputed and competent teachers in future. All the aspirants who wish to apply for the latest government teaching jobs need to appear for such tests in order to get eligible for the jobs. This is for the students who want to teach the fifth level, 10th level classes or up to 12th standard.

These are the tests which are for the primary and secondary teaching aspirants. For this, the students must have a minimum age of 21 which must be as of July 01. The maximum age should not be more than 35 years of age for the TGT examination. TGT examination is conducted by most of the states because these are meant for fulfilling the graduate teacher requirements for the state government schools in India.

The candidates who have completed their graduation in any discipline with the Bachelors of education degree from a recognized university or college can apply for the TGT examination. The minimum age is 21 years for the aspirants. The upper age limit may vary state wise. The students also need to pass the four years integrated degree course from the regional NCERT college of education in the relevant subjects with at least 50% marks or any other degree equivalent to it in / English & Hindi/ Concerned Regional Language Teaching Ability/ CTET passed organized by CBSE.

B.Ed

This is the course for the ones who are passionate about teaching. The candidates who have qualified their masters’ degree with the minimum of 55% marks can appear for the examination. The age limit for the aspirants is 28 years. The relaxation of age is provided to the other backward classes or the women.

Bachelors of Education are the most common course which is studied by zillions of students all over the country. It is considered one of the most prominent teaching courses by the teaching aspirants.

M.Ed

The course is for the ones who have cleared and qualified their Bachelors of Education from any of the recognized and accepted university. The score obtained in the examination is required for the further admission into the course in various universities.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to keep in touch with the universities which are available for the entry into a certain course and gain a better insight into the information for future reference. It is the higher level of the bachelors of education course. Those who wish to teach as lecturers or to the higher level classes usually prefer this course.

As the exam season is approaching and upcoming exams like JEE, VITEEE, MAT, IIFT, AIPVT Exam 2018-2019 around the corner, It is very important for students to be well aware of the pre-requisites.
